Nuevo Home’s unwavering commitment to sustainability is not solely just about reducing the impact our business activities have on the environment. As champions of change, our CSR Policy is also focused on supporting the wider social and economic wellbeing of our local community and the surrounding area. Through the proceeds of events set up and managed by our dedicated workforce, we currently support Slough Foodbank and Home-Start Slough as our chosen charities.
This year has been a tough one for everyone, but the impact of the pandemic has hit essential local charities like these particularly hard. To adhere to the various social distancing guidelines, Slough Foodbank has had to significantly change the way it operates. Rising to the challenge with incredible speed and accuracy, their latest statistics reveal a heart-breaking picture of the effect COVID-19 is having on the Slough community.
March | % increase (versus 2019) | April | % increase (versus 2019) | May | % increase (versus 2019) | |

Slough Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust Network, who revealed that April 2020 was the busiest month ever for UK foodbanks. Sadly, Slough Foodbank is significantly higher than the national average, as the table below shows.

Of course, the biggest impact has been on their volunteer numbers, with many trained volunteers having to stand down due to self-isolation or shielding. However, the support Slough Foodbank has received locally throughout the crisis has been incredibly heart-warming. Here’s a little snippet of the kind of things that have been taking place:
Home-Start Slough is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years old. Their mission is to support the local community through friendship and practical support, working in partnership with local parents to empower them to give their children a better future. All volunteers are parents themselves, working hard to help cope with the stresses and strains of parenthood to create stronger, happier communities.
Let’s take a quick look back at how we’ve been supporting the local community over the last few years.
